Take Advantage Of Magnetic Alarm Contacts For Your Doors And Windows Today
You can never be too safe today and with the help of magnetic alarm contacts, you can tell exactly when a door or window of yours has been opened. The sensor for the alarm is placed on the frame of the location while the magnet itself is installed on the door or window.
How you will know one or the other has been opened is when the magnet and sensor lose contact. When this happens, a signal will be sent to the alarm panel quickly alerting you of any activity in your home. It can be a great way to know exactly what is going on throughout your home at all times.
As you begin shopping for magnetic alarm contacts, you will find there are two different types to choose from; surface and recessed. Surface contacts are by far the easier option to install while saving you the most money as well.
For a surface contact, the sensor is placed onto the frame while the magnetic contact is placed on the door or window with strong adhesive backing to assure it stays.
Typically you will find surface contacts to be used in commercial and industrial applications, but not as much in residential settings. You will sometimes find them in laundry rooms and on garage doors as well.
The next option you have to choose from with door and window contacts is recessed contacts. The only difference from a surface contact is that the sensor and magnet are installed inside the frame and window or door thus eliminating the chance of them being pampered with. These are far more often used in office and residential settings.
Although surface contacts are more expensive, the price difference is typically minute. Most are willing to pay the small difference in order to upgrade to an “invisible” contact with a recessed option.
An additional option you can find on the market that is closely related to a surface contact is a garage door contact. The difference is the sensor is typically installed onto the floor and the magnetic portion is installed on the garage door. In order to protect the sensor from vehicles rolling over it, it is encased in steel.
If you do have sliding windows in your home, you are best off using standard magnetic contacts while you want to use a standard or button glass-break detector for casement windows. The reason for this is because casement windows are extremely difficult to open without breaking the glass.
